Acne - Does it Require Medical Treatment?
Dave Cahill
Let's get real, acne is a terrible issue for millions of people and acne doesn't discriminate. It's hits people of all races at all ages and when you have an outbreak it affects the entire social structure of your life until the outbreak is gone.
And for those of you who have simply been washing your face and treating your acne from home with little to no results it may be time to seek professional help. Yes, going to a dermatologist will cost money and in some instances a fair amount of money but if your acne is severe enough to warrant it, plopping down whatever it takes to have your condition properly diagnosed may be some of the best money you ever spend.
And besides, if what you are currently doing to treat your acne were working then you be reading this article… now would you. Perhaps it's time for a new, so-called radical approach to your acne treatment needs.
Although, in the big picture of acne treatment, the actual percentage of acne cases that are severe enough to require treatment from a qualified professional is low if your efforts are not working or if you have a specific condition like Rosacea then it may be time to open up the checkbook.
The benefits of visiting a qualified dermatologist is that you will finally have the peace of mind that comes with knowing you will be receiving acne treatment and advice from a professional. On a side note, I would like to point out that depending on your insurance you may want to make an appointment with a medical doctor first and then have them refer you to a dermatologist. I know, it sounds like an extra step and more costly but in reality in could save you money because your insurance may pay for a nice portion of your acne treatment because it was a recommended treatment from a medical doctor. I would ask a few questions from your insurance carrier before seeking treatment to see if this could benefit you.
Another benefit if seeking acne treatment from a qualified dermatologist is that you no longer have to sift through the endless piles of information or try the next, great acne product every other month that you see on television or read about in a magazine.
Now, before you see professional help you should take a few steps to ensure that you can properly communicate your problem. Step one is to put together a history list of all the acne products you've used since day one of your acne problems. This may be only a few months if you're young or twenty plus years if you're a little older. You should list the product, how long you used it and what effect it had on your acne. Of course, you won't be able to record exact details but by putting together a rough, but fairly accurate picture of your past acne treatment regiment you'll really help your dermatologist forge a successful acne treatment program for you.
Armed with your past history and their expertise your dermatologist can recommend an acne treatment program that will help you achieve the long term results you've been dreaming about since the very first day you woke up and noticed that first pimple staring back at you in the mirror.
